The first thing that came to my mind when my younger brother sent me this picture was; any Nigerian female that didn't use this thread to make her hair is still a baby.
The thread was very popular years back and seeing this picture brought back memories. Not beautiful memories though but memories worth sharing (laughs).
I can remember vividly how leaves of mangoes used to drop on us while making our hair as most of the experts on 'threading' used to have their shops under mango trees. Well the cool breeze from the trees were complimentary; It's nature's gift and we did enjoy it.
Despite the complimentary breeze, we dreaded weekends because that's when we visit the thread experts, so we would look good for Monday.
Why dread weekends?; you might want to ask. The answer to this question is making me laugh. Thankfully I can laugh over it now but it wasn't funny then.
Personally, I dreaded weekends and the thread experts because of the suffocating experience. Most of the women that made our hair were plus size women and in a bid to style your hair perfectly, they sometimes put your head in between their laps.
Trust me, the experience isn't funny at all as you get to inhale some unexplainable stuffs. Also the heat emanating from there can suffocate a year old baby.
Thankfully, I didn't have to endure it for long. The horrific experiences made me hate hair passionately and begged for a short cut while my mates were begging their parents not to cut their hair
My request was finally granted, after I passed my Common Entrance Examination and I did enjoy my low-cut throughout my secondary school days.
