MASSOB Peaceful Protest Turns Bloody in Asaba; 7 killed, Many Injured

Whilst leaving the house this morning; 10am to be precise, I was warned by two concerned neigbours not to go towards the Asaba/Onitsha expressway. Thankfully, I wasn't going towards the express, I was keeping to an appointment at the Federal Medical centre, Nnebisi road, Asaba.

When I was approaching the hospital's emergency unit, I saw that the place was crowded and a bit noisy. My inquisitive self had to quickly park at the nearest slot. As I walked towards the unit, a pregnant lady was being transferred from an Ambulance to a stretcher. Few minutes later, a Police van brought in a dead man asking where they should deposit his body.

I had to inquire; why two casualty in minutes? I walked to the security man upstairs to satisfy my curiosity. I learnt they were casualties from the MASSOB (Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra) protest. A peaceful protest which unfortunately turned bloody and claimed the lives of seven people including two policemen, leaving many injured.

Was the pregnant woman shot; why is she unconscious? Apparently the car she was in was shot at and she collapsed as a result of shock. Thankfully, when she was brought in, the hospital staffs swiftly swung into action and I am quite optimistic that she and her unborn baby will pull through.

I wanted to take pictures but was too scared as the number of security personnel present was outrageous plus I didn't think it was safe to do so as they were all armed. So I left the unit and went straight for my appointment. I haven't stopped praying for the pregnant woman and for Nigeria. This bring me to this very important question; what is wrong with the youths of this country.

I honestly don't get it. We have the Boko Haram, the Avengers and now these MASSOB, sadly their members are made up of 80% young people. Youth who should be spending time improving themselves and developing this country, unfortunately are the ones destroying the country.

I just hope and pray that the dust of all these diverse 'wahala' settle soonest giving way for peace and tranquil. God will surely help Nigeria,Amen.
