Earlier today, football star Obafemi Martins shared a video of the Ooni of Ife at his Lagos residence with a caption of how he was honored to have the royal ruler at his home. It seems some Nigerians weren't happy with the visit. The paramount ruler have been trending on twitter for hours.
Many opined that the Ooni, Oba Ogunwusi should be the one receiving visitors and not paying courtesy visit to every Tom, Dick and Harry. They believed the Ooni visit to Obafemi Martins was unnecessary and such actions could demystify his throne. Others simply advised that the Oba should beg the elders of his land to teach him how to be a royal.
The actions of the Ooni shouldn't be unexpected as Royalty have gone to the dogs in Nigeria. It's is now based on favoritism. Little wonder the Oba doesn't know the importance of his throne and how sacred it is.
Royalty is prestigious and royal are not commoners who should be roaming the country, from one state to another. For someone who couldn't attend his wedding all in the name of tradition, I think he should respect that same tradition by sitting in his ancestral stool and preserving the tradition of his people instead of making himself an object of ridicle.
With this display by the Ooni, I believe it is now clear to everyone that there is no comparison between the Oba of Benin and the Ooni. The Oba understands the true meaning of royalty hence the reason why he is always on his ancestral stool. Even as 'polish' as the Queen of England, you don't see her jumping from one residence to the other. Hence, any excuse of the Ooni being a modern Oba is not justified.
I know the Oba is a bit young compare to other royal fathers but he should realise that he is now a King. He should let go off his social life and learn all it entails to be king A word is enough for the wise!
